袁大头是民国主要流通货币，口语称袁世凯像系列硬币为“袁大头”，严谨名是“袁世凯像背嘉禾银币”。1914年2月北洋政府颁《国币条例》定银本位，规定一圆银币规格等。同年12月及次年2月，造币总厂等开铸一圆银币，刻袁世凯像，俗称“袁头币”“袁大头”。The "Yuan Datou" was a major circulating currency during the Republic of China era. Colloquially, the series of coins featuring Yuan Shikai's portrait are known as "Yuan Datou," while their formal name is the "Silver Coin with Yuan Shikai's Portrait and Jiahe (Grain) Design on the Reverse." In February 1914, the Beiyang Government promulgated the "National Currency Regulations," establishing the silver standard and specifying the standards for the one-yuan silver coin. In December of the same year and February of the following year, the Central Mint and Jiangnan Mint commenced the production of one-yuan silver coins inscribed with Yuan Shikai's portrait, commonly referred to as "Yuan Head Coins" or "Yuan Datou."
